ORIGINAL WORKS OF ART ON CANVAS BY LAURA SWINK
Artist Statement: Laura Swink
My love for form, texture and color cannot be understated. I want to see it in everything.
That being said, I paint for the sake of these three things in the hopes that I can communicate on an emotional level with the viewer.
Currently, my work is moving into an abstract process that I have not seen many artists use. I try to elminiate as many straight edges in my work as possible, as I prefer very organic lines. I prefer to splashed paint, spreading it out with a squeegee and pulling the paint back with knives. The process lends to many surprises along the way and these I try to incorporate as a part of the work since they are so unplanned and often become the deciding factors in success.

This makes my type of abstract work very difficult to control, the conditions are often messy and the destination unknown. Therefore, the interactions between the paint, the canvas and the artist can often become a series of spontaneous reactions that happen to form the final work. So very little is planned.
In the end, I am beginning to see a series significant break -throughs in this style and I intend to push it to the limits of its ability. The exploration of this technique has been the catalyst for so many recents works and in the planning of so many more.
I desire a new level of communication with my viewer, and the naming of the pieces is as important as how the textures come together to form the piece - it's all one.
